چکیده

Granular computing, based on rough set theory [1, 2], provides the basis for a new computing paradigm [3, 4]. Applying granular computing to logical reasoning processes, we have proposed granular reasoning for connecting possible world semantics and granular computing [5], and developed a granular reasoning framework called a zooming reasoning system [6–8]. The key concept of zooming reasoning system is focus, which represents atomic sentences that appear in each step of reasoning, where it is enough to consider truth values of atomic sentences used in the current step, letting us ignore truth values of other atomic sentences not used by constructing equivalent classes of possible worlds based on truth values of the atomic sentences appearing in the current reasoning step. Focus thus provides a three-valued truth valuation that assigns truth values true or false to atomic sentences that appear in focus and assigns a truth value unknown to other atomic sentences. In the zooming reasoning system, controlling the size of equivalent classes of possible worlds corresponds to reasoning. In redefining the concept of focus, we have introduced the granularity concept of visibility [9]. In granular reasoning, visibility and focus are analogies of terms in vision, representing the following concepts:

A Modal Characterization of Granular Reasoning Based on Scott – Montague Models

Granular reasoning proposed by Murai et al. is a mechanism for reasoning using granular computing, and the concept of “focus” has been proposed as a key concept of granular reasoning. On the other hand, the authors have proposed another concept of granularity, called “visibility”. In this paper, we try to capture the concepts of visibility and focus as modalities of modal logics by introducing ...

A Note on Granular Reasoning and Semantics of FourValued Logics

Zooming reasoning systems is a mechanism for reasoning using granular computing. The impact of proactive and reactive focus on form in multimodal settings on EFL learners' comprehension and production of modal auxiliaries

The major objective of this mixed methods research, which considered elements of both quantitative and qualitative research approaches, was to examine the effect of two different types of focus on form instruction, namely proactive and reactive across multimodal vs. traditional input settings on Iranian EFL learners' comprehension and production of modal auxiliaries. The participants of the stu...

Noise Effects on Modal Parameters Extraction of Horizontal Tailplane by Singular Value Decomposition Method Based on Output Only Modal Analysis

According to the great importance of safety in aerospace industries, identification of dynamic parameters of related equipment by experimental tests in operating conditions has been in focus. Due to the existence of noise sources in these conditions the probability of fault occurrence may increases. This study investigates the effects of noise in the process of modal parameters identification b...

A formal characterization of relevant information in multi-agent systems

This paper studies cooperation in multi-agent systems. In particular, we focus on the notion of relevance underlying cooperation. Given an agent who has some information need, we characterize pieces of information that are relevant to it. This characterization is done in a multi-modal logic. Finally, we give a formal definition for cooperation.
